Slightly adjacent to my normal blog posts, I thought I would highlight that I am at the data collection stage of my 2024 research project, which explores the approaches Coaching Psychologists take in their practice and how they specifically apply coaching psychology.
This research is a ‘once in a generation’ opportunity. It is only very recently that the British Psychological Society (BPS) made it possible for those specialising in Coaching Psychology to gain Chartered Status. As a result, for the first time, diverse coaching professionals with a BPS-recognised academic background in psychology are generating an evidence portfolio to showcase their approach to coaching and how it is evidence-based.
Inevitably, industries harmonise around a few significant theories as they become more established. It therefore feels like a great moment to capture the current state of practice to identify any emerging themes.
I've tried all the ways possible to get in touch with colleagues in the field to see if they could share one of two documents that they have prepared (or are preparing) for their Chartered status:
Accelerated Route: The 1,000 word Coaching Philosophy Document which describes your background, philosophy of approach, evidence based practice and reflections on the future of coaching; or
Peer Review Route: The answer to the question: "Please provide a short (max 500 words) statement on how a broad, critical understanding of psychology underpins coaching practice”
My big research question: The Impact of Psychological Knowledge and Skills on Coaching Practice: A Thematic Analysis of Coaching Philosophies in Applications for Chartered Membership of the British Psychological Society.
Wish me luck as I dive into the analysis over August and September and I look forward to sharing my results with all of those who make a submission in the Autumn.
If you think you might be able to help with the research by making a submission, do check out my research page here:
As always, thanks for stopping by,
