Coaching Supervision

What is it?

Coaching Supervision is a facilitative one-on-one or group experience designed to give you time to focus on your own coaching.

It is a relationship that gives you a professional space to consider business/ethical challenges or consider ways to keep your coaching practice fresh and evidence based.

What are the benefits?

Coaching Supervision offers you the opportunity to:

  • Reflect on your practise in order to gain new insights and learning

  • A sounding board for ethical issues or challenges

  • Increased self awareness to serve your clients powerfully

  • The space for alternative perspectives and critical thinking

  • Restoration and recovery from difficult, concerning or frustrating coaching engagements

  • A place for you to work through your feelings in relation to your business and clients

  • A place to explore both business opportunities and challenges that can distract from delivering great coaching

  • A sense of community

  • Professional credibility and alignment to the principles of your ethical code of conduct

How does it work?

Coaching supervision works through three core territories:

  • Formative: Learning and enhancing coaching skills

  • Normative: Running a business & maintaining alignment to the professional and ethical standards of the coaching industry

  • Restorative: Enhancing personal wellbeing and resilience

I offer both One-to-One and Group Coaching Supervision. Group supervision sessions are a closed group for a 12 month period so you'll always be working with the same community of coaches.

What is it like to be Supervised by Me?

I am quick to build rapport and enjoy working with all people through a very genuine sense of positive curiosity. During a supervision session I am working to create the best thinking environment. The level of support and challenge I offer throughout is responsive to your needs and you can ask for me to dial these things up and down as we work together.

As a Coaching Psychologist and academically trained with Academy of Executive Coaching (AoEC) and Barefoot, I have a strong psychological focus to my practice.  In practical terms, this means I offer a psycho-educational experience that helps us to understand what might be going on for either ourselves or our clients from a psychological perspective. I keep my knowledge up to date with an extensive CPD programme and teach on the post graduate certificate in business and personal coaching with Barefoot. I am registered with ICF as a Coach Supervisor for those who are looking to gain or re-accredit their credential.

In addition to setting up my own coaching practice, I've also set up numerous other businesses. With many years of senior leadership experience in both start-ups and multi-national organisations I bring a pragmatic understanding of how to develop your coaching business.  Where it adds value, I can share my own experiences, but recognise that building a coaching business is always going to be something that is unique to each individual.

If you're interested in learning a little bit more about me, then pop over to the About Me section of the site or find out what other people have said about working with me below or through my testimonials or LinkedIn Recommendations.

Every great relationship starts with a good chat... I offer a free 30 minute no commitment discovery call for anyone who would like to find out more about what coaching supervision might be like. Feel free to book a time online or get in touch and we can find a time that works!

Please note, all my Supervision Groups for 2024 are now SOLD OUT! If you're interested in joining Group Supervision in 2025, feel free to give me a shout!

Gary offers a space where the joy of learning and discovery is fully embraced. I felt that his psychology background also provided me with evidenced-based context which added value to the experience, although he never deviated from his role as a coach supervisor. He graciously zooms in and out to allow for a great exploration of our system of practice, and always has a profound pertinent quote ready to capture a moment! A real treat!

If you’re a coach looking for supervision, I cannot recommend Gary Buxton highly enough! His excellent knowledge, skills & experience, coupled with his all-round awesome personality creates a wonderful opportunity to
✨reflect on your own skills & competencies
✨consider how close your skills are to industry standard, what might need to develop & how
✨focus on your own wellbeing so that you can be fully present in the most resourceful way for your clients.

Each session I’ve attended has been delivered with humour, challenge, creativity & insight, resulting in excellent professional development for me & a great coaching experience for my clients!

I've had the pleasure of working with Gary as my coach and tutor at Barefoot and as a Coach supervisor supporting my own coaching work since becoming a coach. Gary is a master at coaching! He makes being a great coach look effortless. He has a wonderful breadth of coaching and business experience and knowledge which he blends beautifully with huge amounts of warmth, empathy, challenge, humour and precision-insight to support your personal and professional development. If you are fortunate enough to work with Gary you will not be disappointed.

Having been tutored by Gary on my Business & Personal Coaching qualification with Barefoot Coaching, it was a pleasure to be able to join his Supervision group over the last few months. He blended wisdom, compassion and humour beautifully and supported each of us in the group in different ways. His depth of experience means he was able to flex his approach to meet the group's needs from session to session and I came away the better for it, each time. It was a privilege to work with Gary and I would highly recommend him to other coaches looking to choose their next Supervision engagement.
